Make sure your uniform is PERFECT!!! You should not be waiting for the last minute to start to prepare for this evolution
We will be collecting requests for summer trainings.  Have in mind where you want to go this summer.

 

Helpful Hints:

      There are six areas the personnel inspection should cover:

·         Uniforms: clean, pressed, neckerchief tired properly, no Irish Pennants, clean t-shirts, no frayed collars.

·         Hats: proper fit, clean, no stains, no frayed edges

·         NSCC/NLCC Insignia / Ribbon Awards: shoulder flashes and insignia sewn in the proper place, ribbons clean and in the proper order.

·         Hair: regulation haircut / styling

·         Shoes: regulation style, shined.

·         ID Cards: check the expiration date, photo, and signature.

                            Inspect each cadet, officer, midshipmen, and instructor.  Discrepancies should be listed  for each.  Each should receive only one gig per cadet/officer/midshipmen/instructor.

 

Military Bearing and Smartness:

·         Observe general attitudes, response to commands, reporting procedures etc.

·         Evaluate ceremonial procedures during the Personnel Inspection.

·         Questions should relate to the Personal Progress in the Unit, Ribbons Earned, Summer Training, Chain of Command and Unit Activities.

·         Inspect the quarterdeck log for neatness, legibility, correct entries etc. (Refer to the BMR Manuel)

SECTION 4: CORRECT WEARING OF THE UNIFORM

1401 - CLOTHING ARTICLES

1.       MANNER OF WEARING

A.      BELTS -- Shall be made of plain cloth or webbing, same color as the uniform and 1-1/4 inches wide (male), 1 inches wide (female). The belt is worn through all belt loops with the metal clip end to the left of the buckle (male), right of the buckle (female).

B.       BERET -- The beret is worn toward the front of the head, approximately 3/4 inch from the forehead hairline, tilted slightly to the right side of the head. Insignia, miniature size, is to be aligned above the left eye. The beret is not worn forward of the front hairline or on the back of the head.

C.      CAPS -- Caps, including the blue working, combination and knit watch, are worn squarely on the head, the bottom edge horizontal approximately 1-1/2 inches above the eyebrows.

D.      COATS -- All coats prescribed as inner or outer garments are worn buttoned.

E.       GARRISON CAP -- The garrison cap is worn squarely on the head, with the fore and aft crease centered vertically in between the eyebrows with the lowest point approximately 1 inch above the eyebrows.

F.       GLOVES -- Gloves, when prescribed for wearing with the uniform, shall be in conformity with current U.S. Navy regulations. Gloves will be removed to shake hands.

G.      JACKETS -- Jackets, including utility blue and khaki windbreakers, are worn with zipper closed no less than half way.

H.      JUMPERS -- Jumpers shall fit comfortably across the shoulders without binding the armholes when the arms are moved, hang straight at the side and cover all but the lowest button on each side of the broad fall trousers. The sleeves shall be sufficiently bloused so that the button edge of the buttoned cuff covers the wrist bone when the elbow is bent across the front of the body. When warn with the pea coat or raincoat, the jumper collar shall be inside the coat.

I.        NECKERCHIEFS -- Neckerchiefs shall be made of black silk, acetate or suitable alternate fiber, plain and 3s inches square. It shall be folded to form a triangle, then rolled from the apex of the triangle to the base and placed around the neck under the collar. It shall be tied in a square knot with both ends of equal length and falling naturally; the upper edge of the knot to be even with the lower most point of the collared opening.

J.        NECKTIES -- Four-in-hand neckties are worn knotted with a four-in-hand, half Windsor or Windsor knot. The top of the knot is always worn parallel with and slightly above the top of the shirt collar closure hiding the shirt. The bottom will be worn within 1 inch of the belt buckle. The tie shall measure no more than 3 1/4 inches at the widest point.

K.       RAIN/SNOW BOOTS -- Shall be worn with closing, zippers or other fasteners secured. They shall be removed inside.

L.       SCARF -- The scarf, when prescribed, is worn overlapped to form a vee at the base of the throat, hiding the garment beneath.

M.     SHIRTS -- Shirts shall be worn with all buttons buttoned unless a shirt designed to be worn with a tie is authorized to be worn without a tie, then only the top button shall be unbuttoned. The wearing of long sleeved shirts is encouraged aboard ship.

N.      SKIRTS -- Skirts are worn with a length range of 1-1/2 inches above or below the crease in the back of the knees. Belted skirts are to be worn with zipper centered on the back with a belt through all belt loops.

O.      SHOES -- Shoes are to be kept well shined and in good repair.

P.       SLACKS -- Slacks are worn at a length to cover the upper part of the rear of the shoe by approximately 1 inch.

Q.      SWEATER -- The cardigan sweater shall be worn with all buttons buttoned. The "surface warfare" sweater is authorized for NSCC CPOs and above, must have flashes.

R.      TROUSERS -- Trousers, including dungarees, are worn at a length to cover the upper part of the rear of the shoe by approximately 1 inch.

S.      WHITE HAT -- White Hats shall be worn squarely on the head, the lower front edge to be approximately 1/2 inch above the eyebrows and shall not be crushed or bent in the middle.

1406 - NAME TAGS

1.       Name tags will be worn on the right breast aligned with the lower row of ribbons on the left breast.

Female grooming standards:

 Hair shall not fall below the lower edge of the back of the collar as indicated by line A. When wearing jumper uniform, hair can extend a maximum of 1 1/2 inches below the top of the collar.

Male grooming standards:

 (-- INDICATES SCALP LINE) Sideburn shall not extend below the middle of the ear as indicated by line "A". When a mustache is authorized:

It will not go below a horizontal line extending across the corner of the mouth as indicated by line "B".

It shall not extend more than 1/4 inches beyond a vertical line drawn upward from the corner of the mouth as indicated by line "C". Nor shall it protrude below the lip line of the upper lip as indicated by line "D".

Hairstyle properly groomed shall not be greater than 2 inches in bulk. Bulk is the distance that the mass of hair protrudes from the scalp. No individual hair will measure more than 4 inches in length.

  • NLCC- the NLCC patch goes on the LEFT shoulder, and your rate patches goes on your RIGHT shoulder
  • NSCC- for the NSCC patches, have the crow and the anchor point OUTWARD.  Also, your rate goes on your RIGHT shoulder
